Timeless Teachings in a Changing World

Praise be to Almighty Allah for sphering our lives and health. I wish to take this singular opportunity to welcome our beloved First Year Students to School of Hygiene, Kano. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate you for making it to this school, after working hard because many would have wished to be here with us today but did not make it because of one reason or the other.

Having been duly registered by the admission office and screened by the department, you are now members of your respective classes. For you to become bonafide members of your respective classes, your result must be presented to verification office.

Verification: make sure that your verification form is returned with results attached (the one you applied with) to enable the school verify the validity/authenticity of your results.

CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

LECTURES TIME-TABLE: The curriculum Development Office prepares Time-table for lectures across all programs as far provision of programs’ curricular. Make sure that you have at least 75% attendance across all courses or risk being sanctioned from writing exams. The lectures usually last for 14-16 weeks.

USE OF LIBRARY: In order to facilitate and reinforce learning among students Library is provided and equipped with relevant Books, Journals and other reading materials including e-Library. Students can read in the Library and borrow Books upon fulfilling certain criteria.    

LABORATORIES: Being a science-based school, some courses require Practical/Experimentation simultaneously with lectures as indicated in the curricular. We have well equipped Physics, Microbiology, Chemistry/Biochemistry Laboratories with adequate resources both human and materials. Students may be subjected to practical laboratory procedure for them to get skills on various Laboratory technical know-how that were learnt theoretically in the class.

Demonstration ground, Kitchen, Public Health Laboratories, Audio-visual room with required materials are there for internal practical and as part of some programs’ requirement.

PRACTICAL ATTACHMENT: As provided for in the curriculum of programs, students must undergo practical. Students are posted out to various units to learn necessary skills relevant to their own program taught theoretically in the class. Time and Duration of practical varies with programs.

RESEARCH PROJECTS: All HND and ND/Diploma students must conduct research (Project) under the supervision of teachers. At the end of the write up supervisor assesses the project and scores are sent to the Project coordinator for compilation. The Project Coordinator forwards the scores to Departmental Examination Officer for final computation. The grading system is similar to that of other exams.
